The Scientific Affairs Committee is responsible for fostering the scientific foundations of the Society, and for promoting the interests of the Society in matters of scientific practice. In addition, the committee is charged with soliciting nominations and recommending recipients to the Executive Committee for the Society's awards for Distinguished Scientific and Early Career Contribution. There is no explicit schedule for the making of these awards. The recipients of these awards will be determined by an affirmative vote of two-thirds of the members of the Executive Committee.

The SCP Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee works to ensure a welcoming and inclusive society for members of historically disadvantaged and underrepresented groups.
This will be accomplished by fostering communication and interaction among all Society members. The committee will also increase scientific understanding of the structural
challenges, experiences and cultures of underrepresented groups by promoting and supporting research participation in areas addressing diversity. Further, the committee
will play a key role in shaping policies of the Society involving research on diversity, equity, and inclusion and encouraging initiatives promoting the professional
development of its underrepresented members.

The Education and Training Committee engages in activities designed to foster the next generation of consumer psychologists. Among its activities are coordination of the prestigious SCP-Dissertation Proposal Competition and the Best Student Paper Award for the annual winter conference. In addition, the committee gathers information of interest to the Society related to graduate education and careers in consumer psychology.
