Szu-Chi Huang Wins 2026 Tom Meyvis Mentoring Award

San Diego, CA – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) proudly announces that Dr. Szu-Chi Huang, Associate Professor of Marketing at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, has been honored with the Tom Meyvis Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring Award at the 2026 SCP Annual Conference. This award recognizes midcareer consumer psychologists who demonstrate outstanding dedication to mentoring doctoral students and developing the next generation of scholars.

The award is named in honor of Tom Meyvis, a distinguished scholar and beloved member of the marketing community who served as Professor of Marketing and the Merchants’ Council Professor of Retail Management and Consumer Behavior at the Stern School of Business at New York University. His influential research on consumer decision making and enjoyment appeared in leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, and Psychological Science, and he was widely admired for his generosity, warmth, and deep commitment to mentoring others. In his spirit, SCP renamed its Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring Award to reflect a broad view of mentorship, recognizing advising, dissertation committee service, co-authorship, and meaningful support of doctoral students. Like Tom himself, the award celebrates scholars who invest deeply in people, shaping careers and strengthening the field for years to come.

Dr. Huang is widely recognized for her impactful mentorship and her commitment to developing scholars across disciplines and career stages. Her research focuses on motivation science, examining how individuals can be encouraged to make better decisions for themselves and for society. Through a combination of laboratory and field research, she has worked with organizations and nonprofits to design interventions that promote healthier choices, improve team performance, and reduce environmental harm.

Dr. Huang’s research has been published in leading journals across marketing, management, and psychology, including the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Her work has also been featured in prominent media outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Fast Company, and The Today Show. In recognition of both her research and mentorship, she has received numerous honors, including the AMA Rising Star Award, the AMA-Sheth Distinguished Faculty Fellow designation, Marketing Science Institute Young Scholar and Scholar awards, and Early Career Awards from both SCP and the Society for the Science of Motivation.

Dr. Huang earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin and currently teaches at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she has received multiple teaching honors, including the Distinguished Teaching Award. She is known for fostering a supportive and collaborative environment that empowers students and junior scholars to thrive.

The award was presented during the 2026 SCP Annual Conference, held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp District and chaired by Tracy Rank-Christman (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee), Sonja Prokopec (ESSEC Business School, Singapore), and Anthony Salerno (Vanderbilt University). The conference brought together 569 attendees and centered on the theme “Cultivating Connections,” emphasizing the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and community in advancing the field of consumer psychology.
