Anat Keinan Wins 2026 Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award
San Diego, CA – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) is proud to announce that Dr. Anat Keinan, Associate Professor of Marketing at the Boston University Questrom School of Business, has been awarded the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award at the 2026 SCP Annual Conference. This prestigious award recognizes scholars whose research has made a lasting impact on the field of consumer psychology.
Dr. Keinan is a leading expert in consumer behavior, with a particular focus on branding, symbolic consumption, consumer well-being, luxury marketing, and authenticity. Her research explores how consumers derive meaning from experiences and possessions, as well as how issues of self-control, fairness, and ethics shape consumer decision-making. Her work has been published in top academic journals across marketing, psychology, and management, and has been widely recognized for its influence on both theory and practice.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Keinan has received numerous accolades, including the Ferber Award for her research on collectable experiences and the AMA Erin Anderson Award for Emerging Female Marketing Scholar and Mentor. She has twice been ranked among the American Marketing Association’s Top 50 most productive scholars in premier marketing journals over a five-year period. Her research has been recognized as a finalist for the Journal of Consumer Research Best Paper Award multiple times (2009, 2014, 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2024), featured in The New York Times Magazine “Year in Ideas,” and selected for several JCR Research Curations, including “Products as Signals,” “Meaningful Choice,” and “Behavioral Pricing.” In addition to her scholarly contributions, she serves as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Consumer Research.
Dr. Keinan earned her Ph.D. in Marketing, with distinction, from Columbia Business School. Prior to joining Boston University, she spent over a decade on the faculty at Harvard Business School, where she held the Jakurski Family Associate Professor Chair and received the Wyss Award for Doctoral Mentoring. Her research has been featured in hundreds of media outlets, including NPR, CNN, BBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and Scientific American, among many others.
The award was presented during the 2026 SCP Annual Conference, held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp District. This year’s conference, themed “Cultivating Connections,” was chaired by Tracy Rank-Christman (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee), Sonja Prokopec (ESSEC Business School, Singapore), and Anthony Salerno (Vanderbilt University). The theme served as both a call to action and a celebration of what’s possible when scholars prioritize kindness, lead with compassion, and engage with one another respectfully.
“Cultivating Connections” emphasized building a thriving and supportive community across all career stages—encouraging meaningful relationships, fostering collaboration, and strengthening professional networks. The theme also highlighted the importance of constructive and empathetic feedback in professional interactions, including reviewing, presenting, and mentoring, as well as inspiring research that serves as a force for good in both the marketplace and society.
