Jennifer Argo Wins 2026 Fellow Award

San Diego, CA – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) proudly announces that Dr. Jennifer Argo, Carthy Professor of Marketing at the University of Alberta, has been honored with the prestigious SCP Fellow Award at the 2026 Annual Conference in San Diego, CA. This award represents the highest distinction within SCP, recognizing Dr. Argo’s extraordinary contributions to consumer psychology through her influential research and dedicated service to the field.

The SCP Fellow Award is reserved for scholars who earned their Ph.D. over 15 years ago and have made outstanding and unusual contributions to consumer psychology. Dr. Argo’s pioneering research on social influence and social presence has significantly advanced understanding of how consumers’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are shaped by others in purchase and consumption contexts. Her foundational work on consumer contamination and identity threat has opened important new directions in the study of identity-linked consumption and decision-making.

Dr. Argo’s scholarly impact is reflected in her extensive publication record in leading journals, including the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Psychological Science. Her work continues to shape both theoretical development and practical applications in consumer behavior.

Beyond her scholarship, Dr. Argo has demonstrated exceptional service and leadership within the consumer research community. She currently serves as Co-Editor of the Journal of Consumer Psychology and has previously served as an Associate Editor and Editorial Review Board member. She is a past President of the Society for Consumer Psychology (2016) and the Association for Consumer Research (2022), and has contributed extensively through roles on program committees, as Chair of the SCP Publications Committee, and as a faculty member for the SCP Doctoral Consortium and dissertation competitions.

Dr. Argo is also a recipient of the Erin Anderson Award for an emerging female marketing scholar and mentor and the inaugural Association for Consumer Research Early Career Award. She earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Manitoba and has held visiting appointments at institutions including Erasmus University Rotterdam. At the University of Alberta, she teaches Principles of Marketing and Consumer Behavior at the doctoral level.

The award was presented during the 2026 SCP Annual Conference, held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp District. This year’s conference, themed “Cultivating Connections,” was chaired by Tracy Rank-Christman (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee), Sonja Prokopec (ESSEC Business School, Singapore), and Anthony Salerno (Vanderbilt University). The theme emphasized building a thriving and supportive scholarly community by fostering meaningful relationships, encouraging collaboration, and promoting constructive and empathetic engagement across all career stages.
