Joann Peck Wins 2026 Fellow Award
San Diego, CA – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) proudly announces that Dr. Joann Peck, Professor of Marketing and Associate Dean of Teaching, Innovation and Assessment at the Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin–Madison, has been honored with the prestigious SCP Fellow Award at the 2026 Annual Conference in San Diego, CA. This award represents the highest distinction within SCP, recognizing Dr. Peck’s extraordinary contributions to consumer psychology through her influential research and dedicated service to the field.
The SCP Fellow Award is reserved for scholars who earned their Ph.D. over 15 years ago and have made outstanding and unusual contributions to consumer psychology. Dr. Peck’s pioneering research on haptics—the sense of touch—has fundamentally advanced understanding of how physical and vicarious touch shape consumer judgment and behavior. Her work on psychological ownership has also provided important insights into how feelings of possession influence decision-making and stewardship of products and shared resources.
Dr. Peck’s scholarly impact is reflected in her extensive publication record in leading journals, including the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Consumer Psychology. Her research spans product touch, vicarious touch in digital environments, interpersonal touch, and ownership-driven behavior, and has been widely cited in both academic and practitioner outlets.
Beyond her scholarship, Dr. Peck has demonstrated exceptional service and leadership within the consumer research community. She served as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Consumer Psychology from 2015 to 2020 and has been a member of its Editorial Review Board since 2011. She has also contributed significantly to SCP through her role as Education & Training Chair, as well as through conference service, reviewing, and leadership initiatives. In addition, she has been an active contributor to doctoral education, serving as faculty for the ACR Doctoral Symposium and supporting the development of emerging scholars. Her contributions have been recognized with honors including the JCP Park Award and Outstanding Reviewer Award.
Dr. Peck earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Minnesota and has held visiting appointments at institutions including the University of Chicago. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she teaches consumer behavior across undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral programs, bringing a deep appreciation for both the art and science of marketing to her teaching and mentorship.
The award was presented during the 2026 SCP Annual Conference, held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp District. This year’s conference, themed “Cultivating Connections,” was chaired by Tracy Rank-Christman (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee), Sonja Prokopec (ESSEC Business School, Singapore), and Anthony Salerno (Vanderbilt University). The theme emphasized building a thriving and supportive scholarly community by fostering meaningful relationships, encouraging collaboration, and promoting constructive and empathetic engagement across all career stages.
