Evan Weingarten Wins 2026 Early Career Award
San Diego, CA – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) is proud to announce that Dr. Evan Weingarten, Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, has been awarded the Early Career Award at the 2026 SCP Annual Conference. This award recognizes emerging scholars within eight years of receiving their Ph.D. whose research shows strong promise in shaping the future of consumer psychology.
The Early Career Award honors researchers whose contributions demonstrate meaningful scholarly impact rather than sheer productivity. Dr. Weingarten’s work exemplifies this standard through his research on consumer behavior and decision-making, with a particular focus on consumer well-being. His research examines how consumers evaluate experiences, make choices over time, and derive meaning from consumption, offering important insights into topics such as nostalgia, experiential consumption, and judgment under uncertainty.
Dr. Weingarten’s scholarly impact is reflected in a strong and growing publication record in leading journals across marketing and psychology. His work has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Management Science, Psychological Bulletin, Cognition, and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, among others. His research includes influential contributions such as a meta-analysis of the experiential advantage in consumption and work on how consumers evaluate “so-bad-it’s-good” options, as well as research on temporal framing and sharing behavior.
In addition to his research, Dr. Weingarten contributes actively to the field through editorial and service roles. He currently serves on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Consumer Psychology and the Journal of Marketing Research, and regularly reviews for leading journals across marketing and psychology. His work has been recognized with several honors, including the Journal of Consumer Research Best Article Award and a Journal of Consumer Psychology Reviewer Award.
Dr. Weingarten earned his Ph.D. in Marketing and Psychology from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and holds a B.A. in Economics and Psychology with honors from the University of Chicago. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rady School of Management at the University of California San Diego and previously served as an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University before joining the University of Southern California in 2024.
The award was presented during the 2026 SCP Annual Conference, held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp District and chaired by Tracy Rank-Christman (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee), Sonja Prokopec (ESSEC Business School, Singapore), and Anthony Salerno (Vanderbilt University). The conference brought together 569 attendees and centered on the theme “Cultivating Connections,” emphasizing the importance of relationships, collaboration, and community in advancing the field of consumer psychology.
