Hans Baumgartner Wins 2025 Fellows Award

Las Vegas, NV – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) is proud to announce that Dr. Hans Baumgartner, Smeal Chair Professor of Marketing at the Smeal College of Business, Penn State University, has been awarded the prestigious Fellow Award at the 2025 Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV. This esteemed honor, presented on March 1, 2025, recognizes Dr. Baumgartner’s outstanding and unusual contributions to the field of consumer psychology through both his research and service to the discipline.

The Fellow Award represents SCP’s highest distinction, given annually to no more than three individuals who have demonstrated significant impact in consumer psychology. The award specifically acknowledges scholars who have earned a Ph.D. more than 15 years ago and whose research, leadership, and service have made lasting contributions to the field. Dr. Baumgartner’s scholarship, marked by groundbreaking work in Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Cross-Cultural Measurement, has received more than 34,000 citations on Google Scholar, underscoring the profound impact of his research.

Dr. Baumgartner is a renowned thought leader in consumer psychology, with 74 journal articles to his name, including 27 in prestigious “A” level marketing journals. He has received multiple paper awards and was a finalist for several notable honors, including the 2002 Paul Green Award and the 2006 O’Dell Award. He also served as an advisor for the JCP 2005 Young Contributor Award. His scholarly achievements have established him as a leader in the field.

In addition to his extensive research contributions, Dr. Baumgartner has played an instrumental role in the development of the SCP community. He served as SCP President in 2009-2010 and held two terms on the JCR Policy Board. Dr. Baumgartner has also been an Associate Editor and Editorial Review Board member for esteemed journals such as Journal of Consumer Psychology (JCP), Journal of Consumer Research (JCR), and International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM). His service to SCP has earned him recognition through multiple Outstanding Reviewer Awards from both JCP and JCR.

The award was presented during the 2025 SCP Annual Conference, themed “Amplifying our Impact to Enhance Consumers’ Lives,” chaired by Claudia Townsend (University of Miami), Alice Wang (University of Iowa), and Danny Zane (Lehigh University). The event brought together leading scholars and practitioners from around the world to discuss and advance the field of consumer psychology.
