Gita Johar Wins 2025 Fellows Award

Las Vegas, NV – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) is pleased to announce that Dr. Gita Johar, Meyer Feldberg Professor of Business at Columbia University, has been honored with the prestigious SCP Fellow Award at the 2025 Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Presented on March 1, 2025, this award represents the highest distinction within SCP, recognizing Dr. Johar’s exceptional contributions to consumer psychology through her groundbreaking research and dedicated service to the field.

The SCP Fellow Award is given annually to no more than three distinguished scholars who earned their Ph.D. over 15 years ago and have made outstanding and unusual contributions to consumer psychology. Dr. Johar’s pioneering research in information processing and persuasion—specifically in the correction of false beliefs and misinformation—has had a profound impact on the field. Her work has been cited more than 7,000 times on Google Scholar, a testament to its influence.

With 55 journal articles, including 31 publications in top-tier marketing journals, Dr. Johar has demonstrated an exceptional level of scholarly excellence. She has served as Co-Editor of Journal of Consumer Research (JCR) from 2014 to 2017 and led a Journal of Marketing special issue on “Better Marketing for a Better World.” Her leadership extends beyond research, as she has held multiple Vice Dean roles at Columbia University, overseeing research, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as well as online programs.

Dr. Johar’s service to the SCP and the broader consumer behavior community is exemplary. She served as SCP President in 2002 and has held editorial leadership roles across major journals, including JCR, Journal of Consumer Psychology (JCP), Journal of Marketing (JM), Journal of Marketing Research (JMR), and International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM). Additionally, she spearheaded the SCP Climate Change Challenge, an initiative aimed at leveraging consumer psychology to address environmental issues.

The award was presented during the 2025 SCP Annual Conference, themed “Amplifying our Impact to Enhance Consumers’ Lives,” chaired by Claudia Townsend (University of Miami), Alice Wang (University of Iowa), and Danny Zane (Lehigh University). The event brought together leading scholars and practitioners from around the world to discuss and advance the field of consumer psychology.
