2025 Conference and Annual Awards

Las Vegas, NV – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) is pleased to announce its 2025 award winners and newly elected Fellows, recognizing outstanding contributions to consumer psychology through groundbreaking research and lasting impact on the field. These honors were presented at the 2025 SCP Annual Conference, themed “Amplifying our Impact to Enhance Consumers’ Lives,” chaired by Claudia Townsend (University of Miami), Alice Wang (University of Iowa), and Danny Zane (Lehigh University). The event brought together leading scholars and practitioners from around the world to discuss and advance the field of consumer psychology.

SCP Fellows

Each year, SCP honors scholars who have made significant and lasting contributions to consumer psychology by naming them SCP Fellows. This year’s inductees are:

  • Gita Johar (Columbia University) – Recognized for her influential research on consumer persuasion, identity, and brand communication.
  • Hans Baumgartner (Pennsylvania State University) – Honored for his extensive contributions to consumer decision-making, emotions, and research methodology.
  • Priya Raghubir (New York University) – Acknowledged for her pioneering work on consumer perceptions, financial decision-making, and sensory marketing.

Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award

This award honors scholars whose work has had a profound and lasting impact on consumer psychology.

  • Kelly Haws (Vanderbilt University) – Recognized for her research on consumer decision-making, self-control, and health-related consumption choices.

Early Career Award

The Early Career Award recognizes scholars within eight years of earning their Ph.D. who have made significant contributions to consumer psychology.

  • Shiri Melumad (University of Pennsylvania) – Honored for her research on technology’s influence on consumer behavior, digital marketing, and consumer-generated content.
  • Stephanie Lin (INSEAD) – Recognized for her work on self-perception in consumer behavior, particularly in balancing vice and virtue in decision-making.

Schumann Doctoral Dissertation Award

The Schumann Doctoral Dissertation Award is SCP’s highest honor for doctoral students, recognizing exceptional dissertation research that advances consumer psychology.

  • Winner: Ekaterina Goncharova (University of Pennsylvania) – “Financial Decision-Making Under Uncertainty.”
  • Honorable Mention: Archer Yue Pan (Cornell University) – “Cultural Heterogeneity in the Propensity to Adopt AI Products.”

Conference Awards

The following papers and sessions were recognized for their outstanding contributions at the SCP Annual Conference:

  • Best Special Session: “Misinformation” – Andrea Bublitz (University of Basel)
  • Best Working Paper: “The Politics of Self-Care: Conservatism, Identity, and the Specificity of Mental Health Consumption” – Justin Pomerance & Bruce Pfeiffer (University of New Hampshire)
  • Best Paper (Conference Theme): “Disclosing Disability: Consumer Reactions to Disability-Owned Businesses” – Lukas Maier (WU Vienna) & Rishad Habib (Toronto Metropolitan University)
  • Best Competitive Paper: “Branding or Banditry? Understanding When Consumers Perceive Cultural Appropriation by Brands” – Niña Sayson, Geeta Menon, & Andrea Bonezzi (New York University)
