Adriana Samper Wins 2025 Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring Award

Las Vegas, NV – The Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) is pleased to announce that Dr. Adriana Samper, Associate Professor of Marketing at the W.P. Carey School of Business, has been awarded the SCP Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring Award at the 2025 Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV. This prestigious honor recognizes Dr. Samper’s outstanding commitment to developing the next generation of consumer psychology scholars.

The SCP Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring Award acknowledges midcareer consumer psychologists who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to training and mentoring doctoral students. Recipients must have completed their Ph.D. between 8 and 15 years before the year of the award and have established a substantial record of mentorship, including dissertation advising, formal and informal mentoring relationships, and co-authorship with doctoral students.

Dr. Samper has built an impressive career dedicated to both research and mentorship. Since joining the W.P. Carey School of Business in 2011, she has played a pivotal role in guiding doctoral students toward impactful careers in academia. Her research focuses on lay theories, stereotyping, and post-consumption outcomes in the domains of aesthetics, effort, and health. Her work has been widely published in leading journals, including the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Psychological Science, and the Journal of the Association of Consumer Research.

Dr. Samper’s commitment to mentorship has been recognized beyond SCP as well. In 2022, she received the AMA Foundation Erin Anderson Award for an Emerging Female Marketing Scholar and Mentor, and she was named a 2023 Marketing Science Institute Mid-Career Scholar. She also contributes to the academic community through her service on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Journal of Public Policy and Marketing.

The award was presented during the 2025 SCP Annual Conference, themed “Amplifying our Impact to Enhance Consumers’ Lives,” chaired by Claudia Townsend (University of Miami), Alice Wang (University of Iowa), and Danny Zane (Lehigh University). The event brought together leading scholars and practitioners from around the world to discuss and advance the field of consumer psychology.
